The proposed Coalfields Expressway will be the subject of
informational public meetings
PINEVILLE--The proposed Coalfields Expressway will be the subject of informational public meetings by the West Virginia Division of Highways and the Coalfields Expressway Authority April 6, 8, and 9 in Raleigh, McDowell, and Wyoming counties, respectively.

All scheduled in a workshop format from 4 to 7 p.m., the meetings will be held Monday, April 6, in Independence High School at 850 Independence Road in Coal City; Wednesday, April 8, in Mount View High School on Mount View Road (US 52) in Maitland; and Thursday, April 9, in Pineville High School on WV 10 in Pineville.

The meetings will allow citizens to ask questions and state their opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of three alternatives under consideration to improve transportation in the area of Slate, Virginia to I-77 at Beckley, West Virginia now served by VA 83, WV 83 and WV 16. Providing a four-lane road with a 65 mph design speed, the alternatives under consideration for further development range in length from 70 to 76 miles and in effect on residences from 318 to 416, on business from 28 to 35 and on community facilities from 13 to 18.

Personnel from the two agencies will be on hand to present information and to receive public input. Written comments should be sent to Director, Roadway Design Division, West Virginia Division of Highways, Capitol Complex Building Five, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Charleston, WV 25305-0430 on or before April 30, 1998.
